Holiday card with audio qr code printed on it

This is a quick tutorial on how to add audio to a holiday greeting card, or any printed item.

Step 1 is to create a chirbit post, which you are able to do by uploading an existing audio clip to chirbit, or recording a new one via a webcam or microphone on the site. You can also upload or email a voice memo from any smart phone with a voice recorder and email capabilites.

Step 2 is to hover over your chirbit post to click on the “view qrcode for this chirbit” icon.

after you click on the icon, the QRCode window will pop up as illustrated here.

You should now be able to download your qrcode to print it on your card or flyer.

Voice Changer Plus iphone app works great with Chirbit

Friday, September 24th, 2010

I’ve been playing around with this great iphone app called Voice Changer Plus and I wanted to share it with you all. I was created by the good folks at Arf Software. Voice Plus lets you record your voice and then change it to one of 42 different voices listed below. Which as you might guess would make for great chirbit creating!

  • Mouse
  • Fast Mouse
  • Slow Mouse
  • Turtle
  • Slower
  • Slowest
  • Faster
  • Fastest
  • Echo
  • Reverse
  • Haunting
  • Higher
  • Lower
  • Robot
  • Choir
  • Guitar
  • Whisper
  • Organ
  • Warped
  • Underwater
  • Fan
  • Swirling
  • Bathroom
  • Long Echo
  • Fuzzy
  • Old Telephone
  • SCUBA
  • Gramophone
  • Garth Bader
  • Metallic
  • Small Room
  • Megaphone
  • Bird
  • Helicopter
  • Rain
  • Jungle
  • Crowd
  • Station
  • Traffic
  • Alien 1
  • Alien 2
  • D’Alec

The free version of the app only included 18 voices until recently. It now includes all of them. To share your recordings on chirbit you must have the full version, because you need the share via email capability. I have sent them an email about adding an upload to chirbit button. (fingers crossed) I hope they do it!

To post your audio clips on chirbit just eMail your recording to wav-post@chirbit.com and include your 4 number pin in the body of the email. Here is an example of a recording I made with it.

Here is a review of the app on YouTube.

If you get a copy of the app and record something share it in the comments below. I’d love to hear your posts.

Chirbit Summer Update No. 1 – Plugins Galore!

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

It’s the middle of summer and things are heating up at Chirbit!
I’ve been working on some graphic clean ups, but the big updates have been in the plugin department.

Chirbit WordPress Plugin

Last month I released the WordPress Chirbit Plugin. It enables you to embed your chirbit post easily on your WordPress blog/site. To embed a chirbit post in your blog all you need is the plugin and the short URL for your chirbit.

Example:
[ chirbit: http://chirb.it/ghcKkPL ]

If you use it please send feedback and feature suggestions for the next version!

You can download the plugin here.

Chirbit BBCode Plugin

Rick Strife created a BBCode plugin for embeding your chirbit posts easily in a Bulletin Board that is BBCode enhanced.

To embed a chirbit in a bulletin board post all you have to do is use Rick’s plugin, your chirbit short URL and the simple BBCode.
Bulletin Board Code as you may know is a way to enhance posts without using HTML.

Here are a few links about BBCode:

Chirbit OpenVBX Plugin

Mr. Andrew Watson of OtherNumber created the Chirbit plugin for Twilio’s OpenVBX platform.
It enables you to post to chirbit from your OpenVBX system.
You can download the Chirbit OpenVBX plugin here:

chirbit’s seed idea – logosproject.org (c. 1999)

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

logos /ˈloʊɡɒs/ or /ˈlɒgɒs/; the word or form which expresses a thought. The written word in action.

In 1999 I had an idea to create a website where people could upload mp3 or real audio versions of public domain books. The idea was for anyone to take text from Project Gutenberg and record it digitally then upload the file for public use. Primarily for people with disability (sight or Dyslexia) or for anyone listening to it on a computer (this was pre iPod as the first iPod was not released until October 23, 2001).

Project Gutenberg as it appeared in May of 2000

This was 5 years before LibriVox. In 1999 bandwidth and encoding where not trivial, and the idea of user generated content was not as wide spread as it is today.
I let the domain go in 2004. ( I am not sure what the current logosproject.org will be. There is place holder text there now.) I stumbled upon the archive.org wayback machine files of logosproject.org while thinking about chirbit and the direction that I see it going. I am excited about chirbit as a hub of user created audio awesomeness, and am even more excited about this and other ideas coming to fruition after long periods of germination (thoughts made into action). My hope is that chirbit is simple, useful and fun to all who use it. – Ivan

Chirbit open beta

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

Today I started announcing chirbit on Twitter. I set up a chirbit twitter account a few weeks back in preparation for this day. The URL is http://twitter.com/chirbit. I am excited for folks to start putting chirbit to the test. If you find any bugs, glitches or misspellings please let me know. Email me directly at ivan@chirbit.com. Thanks!

Chirbit starts closed beta

Monday, November 10th, 2008

Today Chirbit starts it’s closed beta period. Please let us know if you experience any glitches or bugs. The design of the site is purposely similar to other sites to help with functionality, and to illicit a response of familiarity. Once we are through private beta we will rework the sites graphics to give Chirbit more of it’s own identity. There are some great things in the works.
